People raised the morning star separatist flag at Kwamki Lama village, Mimika Baru subdistrict in Mimika, Papua on Wednesday early morning after a series of small bombing at gold and copper mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia.

Mimika Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Godhelp C Mansnembra said that the police came to the flag hoisting place but found only the flag pole. He suspected that the people who hoisted the flag brought it down and ran away.

The hoisting of the separatist flag occurred just days after three explosions at different locations at Freeport’s site — two at the highway leading to Freeport’s mining concession on Thursday night and Friday early morning and one explosion near the Moses Kilangin International Airport in Timika on Sunday night.

The bombing, though, did not cause any destruction or injury.

The police had blamed the Free Papua Organization for the series of bombing to create terror at Freeport.

Mansnenbra said Wednesday that the police investigation into the bombings found that the explosions were from two small bombs and a mortar made in the period of 1941-1943. (rid)
