According to a report in Cenderawasih Pos on 10 December, Buchtar Tabuni who is facing the charge of subversion and incitement is refusing to say anything and simply keeping his mouth shut when questioned by the police. According to a police officer handling the case, Buchtar is refusing to say anything to anybody. He is also refusing to allow himself to be subjected to a medical examination by a medical team from the police. A police officer said that the accused man was acting within his rights. Nevertheless, he was concerned about his refusal to be medically examined saying that his state of health was likely to deteriorate, given that he had been in a state of shock at what was happening to him and had even shed tears about his situation.

Referring to a statement made by some elements in the Rukun Keluarga Jayawijaya and the chairman of the Association of Jayawijaya Student and Pupils Association, Sem Tabuni, supporting police moves to charge Buchtar Tabuni to court, Agus Alua, chairman of the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP) said these people cannot claim to represent the people of the Central Highlands.

Representatives of the AMPTP, the Association of Students of the Central Highlands of which Buchtar is deputy secretary-general, said that they were planning to meet the police chief in connection with the arrest of Buchtar. ‘We also want to meet the chief of police to discuss this case,’ he said. Buchtar had only be trying to express his aspirations.’
